PROGRAM OVERVIEW

If you are expecting a program where juniors spend time hitting balls at the driving range and chip and putt around the practice green, then this is not the program for you.   Our philosophy is quite simple.  The program's goal is to develop multi-sport explosive rotary athletes first, create competitive golfers second and produce a love for the game of golf along the way.

The River Valley Junior Golf Club - Edmonton is an innovative approach towards junior golf improvement.  It is based on the principles of Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD).  Research shows us that using physical and mental activities that are appropriate to a child is truly the best way to go about developing a young athlete.  These activities are challenging and rewarding.  These young athletes will gain speed, strength, agility, balance, kinesthetic awareness and confidence which are all traits found in the best athletes.  Most important, they will learn golf, stay active, make friends and have fun!

GRADING: The juniors are all tested on the last day of the series/lessons.  To progress to the next level, the juniors will need to pass a series of fun age appropriate tests that check their ability to execute the skills that they have learned in their program.  If they are successful, they advance to the next level of the program.

LESSON LEVELS

Please note that all participants will be required to have their own golf clubs,

 equipment will not be supplied.

FUNdamentals - The Cyclone (recommended ages 6-9)   REGISTER NOW!

Golf fundamentals are learned through a series of skill progressions that break each one down into easy to understand chunks.  We know that it takes time for young children to master new skills.  We create a learning environment that encourages exploration and creativity.

Most experts say that children who develop better fundamental movement skills will develop golf-skills at a faster rate and peak at a higher level of expertise.  The Cyclone Program focuses on the development of fundamental movement skills.  This athletic foundation will also enhance the ability of your child in other sports they play.  Juniors will also be introduced to basic rules, safety issues and etiquette.

LEARN TO PLAY - The SMASH Zone (recommended ages 9-12)  REGISTER NOW!

This program focuses on the progression from basic fundamental movement skills to fundamental sport skills.  The development of fundamental movement skills and fundamental sports skills is called "Physical Literacy".  Physical Literacy is the athletic foundation that underpins success in golf or any other sport.  Our goal is to achieve Physical Literacy along with highly developed golf skills by the onset of your child's growth spurt.  In the Learn to Play Phase, the juniors are introduced to the SMASH Zone.  The SMASH Zone contains more golf stations that then Cyclone.  The activities that continue to develop Physical Literacy in the SMASH Zone are also more challenging than the Cyclone.
